In Search of Wallander

Back in 2008 I met composer Martin Phipps at a party where I was performing. A few days later he called to ask if I would go to his studio to record a new version of my song Nostalgia for use as the theme to a detective series he was working on. Of course I said yes! That series turned out to be the BBC’s version of Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh.

I became an avid fan of the series, but it wasn’t until I was touring in Sweden several years later that I had an opportunity to visit Ystad, the Swedish town that is the setting for Henning Mankell’s Wallander novels, and where Kenneth Branagh’s series was filmed.

I found myself with a few days off from the tour and decided to make my way down to Ystad to see if I could find some of the locations that were used, and perhaps film a new video for the Wallander version of the song. The trip took a dark turn in to the sort of mystery that Kurt Wallander could have been called in to solve…
